BituChem Group employs 35 full time staff members in the manufacture of road surface treatments and coloured asphalt surfacing, with its headquarters in Cinderford. The business became aware of the legal and moral duties to reduce their carbon footprint, and so contacted the Growth Hub for advice.

They then embarked on a 6-week consultation, collating data on all aspects of the business under the guidance of the Net Zero team, to establish what areas the company produces the most carbon and what can be done to reduce it.

As a result, the group has a carbon emission figure for each of its three individual companies that is accurate and reliable and can be used to demonstrate a recognised method incorporating all parts of the business. The Net Zero team also provided very useful advice on actions to reduce carbon emissions and the way forward.

The business now has plans to tackle their three biggest areas of emissions by switching fuels and moving to a renewable energy tariff.  They also plan to have their data audited and verified by an external auditor. After this they will refresh the data which will be on a continuous basis, before re-analysing and addressing the next set of priorities.

The lead on the team - Kevin Cornwall - has worked in joint health and safety, environmental and quality roles for 10 years, covering varying sectors including telecommunications, large scale building works and now road-surfacing.
