Cyber Tech

Overview

The Cyber Tech Business Group plays a key role in advancing Gloucestershire’s position as a national leader in cyber and digital innovation. It supports the development of cyber-tech skills, fosters collaboration between industry and academia, and contributes to the Local Growth Plan. The group also ensures that the voice of the cyber sector is represented in wider discussions on Local Government Reorganisation and Devolution.

Purpose

1. To support the key Government objective of making the UK one of the most secure places in the world to do business.
2. To develop Cheltenham as the ‘cyber cradle’ within Gloucestershire, ensuring cyber-tech start-ups are surrounded with the knowledge and expertise to grow here, capitalising on the world-class Cyber-tech institutions in the county.

Terms of Reference

• To offer specialist cyber-tech support to the development of the UK’s first cyber-centric business park: Cyber Central, ensuring opportunities for investment are utilised.
• Supporting the delivery of Gloucestershire’s cyber-tech ambitions by enabling access to high-quality digital infrastructure and developing a robust pipeline of cyber skills, in alignment with the Local Growth Plan and national digital strategies.
• Work with education, skills and employment teams to identify cyber-tech skills capabilities, and to encourage and help facilitate a specialist skills pipeline.
• Provide expert guidance to other business groups on cyber security best practices, helping sectors maintain a proactive and resilient approach to online safety.
• To assist the Local Authorities in the development of a cyber strategy for the county, taking into considerations the wider ambitions of the UK’s cyber and digital strategy whilst utilising the sector’s own strengths.
