About the speakers
Dan Smale
Dan Smale has spent twenty years at the intersection of technology, operations, and business transformation. He began his career as a software engineer, progressing through a series of senior leadership roles where he led large, complex technical programmes and developed a deep grounding in how technology can be deployed strategically, safely, and at scale. Dan moved into higher education as Head of IT at a local university, driving a wholesale modernisation of its technology estate and leading one of the first UK institutions to achieve Cyber Essentials Plus certification. In 2020 he joined Fasthosts Internet, Gloucester's own web hosting and digital services provider. In supporting the Growth Hub, Dan draws on two decades of experience helping organisations, from government agencies to SMEs, navigate technology decisions with confidence. His focus is practical: cutting through the noise, asking the right questions, and making digital tools work for the business rather than the other way round.
Chelsea Hopskin
Chelsea Hopkins works between communications, creativity, and technology. She trained as an illustrator, with roots in folklore art and bold ink work, before building a career around storytelling in all its forms, from brand and content to community and events. Along the way she has led the creative direction of a 3,500-attendee convention, raised more than £80,000 for charity, and run a global team of 60 digital artists for a non-profit. Today Chelsea is PR and Social Lead at Fasthosts, Gloucester's own web hosting and digital services provider. She holds Chart.PR and MCIM accreditations. At heart she is a builder, happiest taking an idea from nothing to something real. Her focus is practical: cutting through the noise, finding the story that matters, and making technology serve the work rather than the other way round.
