Experience

Darren’s experience is focused on helping business owners build stronger, more profitable and more resilient businesses.

With 25 years in business, including senior leadership roles across engineering, manufacturing, automotive, retail and technology, Darren has worked in both large corporate environments and smaller owner-managed businesses. His career has centred on growth, commercial performance, operational improvement and helping teams turn plans into practical action.

As founder of The Profit Agent, Darren now works with SME owners who are often busy, capable and ambitious, but who want greater clarity, control and confidence around the financial performance of their business. His work helps owners understand where profit is really being made or lost, improve cashflow visibility, strengthen margins, and make better decisions about growth, pricing, costs and owner reward.

Darren’s approach is practical, supportive and commercially grounded. He understands that many business owners are not short of effort or ideas; they often need help cutting through the noise, prioritising the right actions and building the systems, habits and confidence to move forward.

He is particularly passionate about supporting local business owners who feel trapped in the day-to-day running of their business and want to create something more sustainable. Through mentoring, he aims to share the lessons, mistakes and insights gained over his career to help others make better decisions, avoid common pitfalls and build businesses that work more effectively for both the owner and the team

After stepping away from my corporate career at 52, I still feel I have much to give. Over 25 years in business, across several sectors, I have learned many practical lessons about growth, leadership, profitability, decision-making and resilience. My motivation for becoming a mentor is to share that experience with local business owners and help them make clearer, more confident decisions. I want to support owners who are working hard, but who sometimes need space, perspective and practical guidance to step back from the day-to-day and focus on what really matters. Mentoring aligns closely with my wider mission: helping SME owners create more time-rich and financially secure futures by building stronger, more profitable and more sustainable businesses that work better for the owner, the team and the wider local economy.
